Monoboard and Monofret Installation Guides

Installing these boards can be pretty simple with our thoroughly labeled boards, but for those with little experience here are some instructions (photos to be added soon!)

Monoboard RP:

-          Install Kailh BOX switches on the bottom side (no logo). To help hold them in place, slightly bend a leg before installing

-          Solder wires to components, matching printed labels.

-          Match the screw hole pattern (strum switches should be roughly center), install screws

-          Some models may need a case post removed to clear the USB cable before closing the case

-          Program with PhunkyTools

Monoboard 5:

-          Install Raspberry Pi Pico with USB port facing toward the two rectangular cutouts and on the printed side. Using pin header (plastic bit between the two boards) making sure all pins are soldered, front and back, and that it’s lying flat.

-          Install Kailh BOX switches on the bottom side (no printing). To help hold them in place, slightly bend a leg before installing

-          Bend tilt switch legs 90 degrees, install flat against the board and angled down toward the Pico.

-          Solder wires to components, matching printed labels.

-          After installing USB cable, fill the gap between the cable and board with hot glue to keep it in place (3m tape in kit). This is crucial to support the USB cable and keep the USB port from breaking. The two rectangular slots can be used to zip-tie the cable for extra security but ONLY once fully supported.

-          Match the screw hole pattern (strum switches should be roughly center), install screws

-          Program with PhunkyTools

Monofret v1:

-          Press Kailh Choch switches into cutouts from the back (non printed side). Make sure the bottom leg lines up with the bottom pad. The clips on the switches may need to be pressed in for them to snap into place.

-          Bend the bottom leg down toward the solder pad, flood pad and pin with solder.

-          Bend side leg toward the side solder pad, flood pad and pin with solder. A small piece of wire may be needed to bridge the connection if the pin isn’t bent completely.

-          Snip the two small plastic nubs off the bottom of each switch. If not done, it may interfere with the guitar neck back case.

-          Solder wires to matching pads

-          After installing fret buttons, first install top screw into case. If bottom screw is loose, use a washer to hold it in place.

Monofret v2:

-          Press Kailh Choc mini switches into cutouts from the back (non printed side).

-          Solder legs to pins

-          Solder wires to matching pads

-          After installing fret buttons, first install top screw into case. If bottom screw is loose, use a washer to hold or dab of hot glue to hold it in place
